Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often. If you do not find your answer here, please reach out — we are always happy to help.

We understand that seeking psychiatric help comes with many questions — and some anxiety. Below, we have answered the most common questions we receive from patients and families. If you have a question that is not addressed here, please do not hesitate to contact us directly. No question is too small or too silly. We are here to help you feel informed and comfortable.

What should I expect at my first psychiatric consultation?
Your first visit typically lasts 25-35 minutes. Dr. Yadav will ask about your concerns, symptoms, medical history, family background, and current life situation. He will conduct a thorough assessment and discuss potential diagnoses and treatment options with you. There is no physical examination — it is a conversation. You are encouraged to ask questions and share openly.
Do I need a referral to visit Dr. Yadav?
No referral is needed. You can book an appointment directly by calling +91 95993 86184, messaging us on WhatsApp, or using our online appointment form. However, if you have previous medical records or reports, please bring them.
Should I bring someone with me?
You are welcome to bring a family member or friend for support. For child consultations, parents/guardians must be present. For adult consultations, it is entirely your choice — some people prefer to come alone, others feel more comfortable with support.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Bring a list of any medications you are currently taking, any previous medical or psychiatric reports, a note of your symptoms and when they started, and any questions you want to ask. If you have them, school reports are helpful for child assessments.
I feel nervous about seeing a psychiatrist. Is that normal?
Absolutely. Feeling nervous is completely normal and very common. Dr. Yadav and our team understand this and will do everything to make you feel comfortable. There is no judgment here — only understanding and support.
Will I be prescribed medication?
Not necessarily. Medication is prescribed only when clinically indicated. Dr. Yadav will discuss all treatment options with you, including whether medication is recommended. If medication is prescribed, he will explain what it does, potential side effects, and how long you may need to take it. The decision is always collaborative.
Are psychiatric medications addictive?
Most psychiatric medications prescribed for common conditions like depression and anxiety are not addictive when taken as directed. However, some medications (like certain anti-anxiety drugs) require careful management. Dr. Yadav monitors all prescriptions closely and discusses any concerns openly.
How long will I need treatment?
This varies greatly depending on your condition, its severity, and your individual response to treatment. Some conditions require short-term treatment (months), while others may need longer-term management. Dr. Yadav will discuss expected duration during your consultation and review this regularly.
Can I stop medication on my own if I feel better?
Please do not stop psychiatric medication abruptly without consulting Dr. Yadav, even if you feel better. Sudden discontinuation can cause withdrawal symptoms or relapse. Dr. Yadav will guide you on safely tapering medication when the time is right.
Is therapy included in treatment?
Dr. Yadav incorporates therapeutic strategies and counseling into psychiatric consultations. For specialized, intensive psychotherapy (like extended CBT), he may refer you to a qualified psychologist or therapist while continuing to manage your psychiatric care.
At what age can a child see a psychiatrist?
Children can be assessed from toddlerhood if there are developmental concerns. For ADHD, assessment is typically possible from age 4-5. For autism, signs can be evaluated from 18 months. There is no minimum age — if you have concerns about your child, please reach out.
Will my child be labeled with a diagnosis?
A diagnosis is a clinical understanding, not a label. It helps access appropriate support, accommodations, and treatment. Dr. Yadav discusses diagnoses thoroughly with parents and ensures children are never made to feel defined by a diagnosis.
Will the school be involved?
Only with your explicit permission. Dr. Yadav can provide reports or recommendations for school accommodations if needed. School involvement is always discussed with parents first and initiated only with consent.
How can I prepare my child for the visit?
Tell your child they are going to meet a doctor who helps children with their feelings and thoughts. Keep it simple and positive. Avoid using words like “problem” or “abnormal.” Reassure them that it is a conversation, not a test or examination.
Will my child need medication?
Not necessarily. For many childhood conditions, behavioral strategies, parent training, and environmental modifications are effective. Medication is considered only when symptoms are significantly impacting the child’s functioning and non-medication approaches alone are insufficient.
Is my consultation completely confidential?
Yes, absolutely. All information shared during consultations is strictly confidential. We comply with the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 and patient privacy standards. Your information is never shared with anyone without your explicit written consent.
Who has access to my records?
Only Dr. Yadav and authorized clinic staff have access to your medical records. Records are stored securely. They are not shared with family members, employers, or any third party without your consent.
Will my insurance company be informed?
We only share information with insurance companies if you request it and provide written consent. Otherwise, your consultation details remain private.
What about confidentiality for teenagers?
For adolescent patients, we balance confidentiality with family involvement. Teens are encouraged to share openly, and we respect their privacy while keeping parents informed about treatment progress. Specific confidentiality boundaries are discussed and agreed upon with both teen and parents.
What are the clinic timings?
Monday to Friday: 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Saturday: 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Sunday: Closed. Evening hours are specifically designed for working professionals and school-going children.
