ADHD & Autism Assessments

Accurate, compassionate, and evidence-based diagnostic assessments for children and adolescents in Lucknow.

Understanding Your Child’s Unique Mind

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are neurodevelopmental conditions that affect how children process information, interact with others, and navigate their daily lives. Early and accurate assessment is crucial — it opens the door to understanding, support, and interventions that can dramatically improve a child’s quality of life.

At Jai Ram Psychiatry Clinic, Dr. Lt. Col. Aanuj Yadav (Retd.) conducts comprehensive ADHD and autism assessments using validated, evidence-based diagnostic tools. With 14 years of psychiatric experience in the Indian Army — where he dealt with diverse neurological and psychological presentations — Dr. Yadav brings a depth of diagnostic expertise that ensures assessments are thorough, accurate, and sensitive to each child’s individuality.

We understand that the prospect of an assessment can be anxiety-inducing for parents. Our process is designed to be transparent, supportive, and entirely focused on understanding your child — not labeling them. An assessment is simply a tool to gain clarity, and clarity leads to better support, better accommodations, and better outcomes.

ADHD Assessment

ADHD is characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and/or impulsivity that interfere with daily functioning, academic performance, and social relationships. It is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders in children, yet it is frequently misunderstood or missed.

Our ADHD assessment process includes: Detailed clinical interview with parents and child, Behavioral rating scales (completed by parents and teachers), Observation of child behavior during consultation, Review of school reports and academic records, Differential diagnosis to rule out other conditions (anxiety, learning disabilities, sleep disorders).

A proper ADHD diagnosis is not a label — it is a roadmap. It helps parents, teachers, and the child themselves understand why certain things are difficult and what strategies can help. Treatment may include medication, behavioral therapy, classroom accommodations, and family guidance.

Common ADHD Signs

  • Difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play
  • Frequently loses things or is forgetful
  • Fidgets, squirms, or cannot stay seated
  • Talks excessively or interrupts others
  • Struggles to follow through on instructions
  • Often acts without thinking of consequences
  • Difficulty waiting their turn
These signs alone do not confirm ADHD — a professional assessment is essential.

Early Signs of Autism (Ages 1-3)

  • Limited or no eye contact by 12 months
  • No babbling or pointing by 12 months
  • No words by 16 months
  • No two-word phrases by 24 months
  • Repetitive movements (hand-flapping, rocking)
  • Unusual reactions to sensory input (sounds, textures)
  • Difficulty with changes in routine
  • Delayed response to name
Every child develops differently. These signs warrant assessment, not alarm.

Autism Assessment

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a developmental condition that affects how a person communicates, interacts with others, and experiences the world. It is called a spectrum because it presents differently in every individual — some children may have significant support needs while others may have above-average intelligence with social-communication differences.

Our autism assessment includes: Developmental history review with parents, Observation of social interaction and communication, Assessment of repetitive behaviors and restricted interests, Sensory processing evaluation, Screening tools such as M-CHAT, CARS, or ISAA as clinically appropriate, Comprehensive feedback session with parents.

Early identification of autism allows for timely interventions — speech therapy, occupational therapy, behavioral support, and educational accommodations — that can significantly improve developmental outcomes. We provide not just the assessment but also guidance on next steps, therapy referrals, and ongoing support.

Common Parent Questions

At what age can ADHD or autism be assessed?
Autism signs can often be identified as early as 18 months, with formal assessment possible from age 2. ADHD is typically assessed from age 4-5 onwards, though earlier concerns can be discussed.
Will the assessment label my child?
A diagnosis is a clinical understanding, not a label. It helps access appropriate support and accommodations. We discuss this thoroughly with parents.
How long does the assessment take?
The process typically spans 1-3 sessions depending on complexity, plus a feedback session. We do not rush — we ensure thoroughness.
Is the assessment confidential?
Absolutely. All assessment information is completely confidential and shared only with parents/guardians.
